The Book

For the first time, the colour photographs realised by Daidō Moriyama, one of the leading figures in contemporary photography.

An extraordinary limited-edition artist book edited by Filippo Maggia, intended for all collectors searching for the magic of a precious and extraordinary product destined over time to grow in value

“Black and white tells the story of my inner world: the deepest feelings and emotions I feel every day as I walk through the streets of Tokyo or other cities, like a vagabond wandering aimlessly. Color describes what I encounter with no filters, and I like to record that as my eyes see it. The former is full of contrasts; it’s pungent and totally reflects my loner personality. The latter is polite and thoughtful of others, which is the way I present myself to the world”

Daidō Moriyama

Daidō Moriyama (born 1938) is one of the most important living photographers and photobook makers. His career began in Tokyo in the 1960s, where he formed part of the influential Provoke group, which published some of the most innovative avant-garde photography made in post-war Japan. In a career spanning over fifty years, Moriyama is best known for his wild, blurred, grainy style of black and white photography, capturing urban experience on the streets of Tokyo and New York. However, there are many sides to his practice and he also works with colour, polaroid, silkscreen and installation.

Moriyama’s work can be found in the collections of many major museums.
