The Book

Ugo Nespolo

Ugo Nespolo’s limited edition was created due to the need to conceive the artwork as an element of union between the artist and the public, shifting the crux of this relationship from purely aesthetic contemplation to more intimate participation.

Pushing his research into the history of art, Nespolo rediscovers the spirit that drove Duchamp to create his Boîte-en-valise (Box-in-a-suitcase) and brings it up to date it in the light of our times.

The artwork no longer requires large displays and mere visual contemplation, but instead becomes the substance of a relationship that makes the public participate in a personal reading operation (and thus experience). The artwork therefore becomes debatable and can have infinite variations, independent of the artist’s initial creative intent.

Ugo Nespolo’s travelling museum consists of a suitcase that can be transformed into the wings of a theatre, inside which reproductions of the artist’s works can be freely arranged.
It is a limited edition of ninety copies, accompanied by the book Nulla dies sine linea signed by Ugo Nespolo.

Carlo Orsi was born in Milan on 8 March 1941 and started out in the world of photography as assistant to Ugo Mulas. In addition to photojournalism for leading publications in Italy and other countries, he has worked over the years for top fashion magazines as well as various brands in the sectors of clothing and furniture.

His first solo show, designed by Mario Botta, was held in 1984.

Orsi decided to abandon the world of fashion and advertising in the 1990s and return to his true passion, reportage, a great love never completely forsaken.
